A dedicated citizenry included Lucas Sullivant, founder of Franklinton, his three sons, two of whom were major figures in fostering science and higher education throughout the nineteenth century, and his brother-in-law, Lyne Starling, founder of the Starling Medical College. The Sullivants and the Starlings left a rich legacy that included the first medical college, St. Francis Hospital, Columbus public schools and The Ohio State University. There is still much more to tell. However, the sum total of the history of Columbus Medicine and Health during the early years is truly remarkable with profound influences on the community at large in the twenty-first century.
