Klare Vorstellungen und Ziele, eindeutig Stellung beziehen, schlüssig handeln und sicher auftreten sind (menschliche) Eigenschaften, die für ganze Organisationen notwendig werden.
Auch die Erwartungen an Schulen haben sich geändert. Damit sie am Schulmarkt bestehen können, müssen sie sich genau positionieren und profilieren.

In der Wirtschaft ist diese Problematik seit Jahren bekannt. Wissenschaftler und Praktiker haben deshalb bereits Methoden entwickelt, um den Anforderungen gerecht zu werden. Corporate Identity, im Folgenden auch mit CI abgekürzt, ist ein solches Konzept, das an erfolgreichen Unternehmen wie Coca-Cola Anwendung findet. Die vorliegende Hausarbeit zielt darauf ab, Corporate Identity analytisch zu entfalten und widmet sich der Frage, das Konzept auf (staatliche) Schulen zu übertragen. Im ersten Teil wird Corporate Identity daher zunächst allgemein beschrieben: Kapitel zwei bis vier dienen der Erläuterung von Hintergründen, Bestandteilen und (unternehmerischen) Zielen. Der zweite Teil bringt die einzelnen Elemente in den schulischen Kontext: Nach der Frage ‘Warum CI an Schulen?’ konkretisieren Kapitel sechs und sieben die praktische Umsetzung. Schulprofil und Schulimage finden im nachstehenden Abschnitt Berücksichtigung. Unter Punkt neun wird der Nutzen von CI an Schulen zusammengefasst. Eine Auseinandersetzung mit Widerständen und allgemeiner Kritik sind Inhalt des dritten Teils, bevor ein abschließendes Fazit und ein kurzer Ausblick erfolgen. Im Anhang werden schließlich Beispiele aufgeführt, die zum besseren Verständnis beitragen (Teil IV).
