Zu den entscheidenden Faktoren, die das Leistungspotential von Mitarbeitern beeinflussen, gehören die Arbeitsmotivation und die damit unmittelbar verbundene Arbeitszufriedenheit. Doch fast jede Ausbildung vermittelt in erster Linie nur die Sachkenntnisse. Zwischenmenschliche Fähigkeiten werden oft vernachlässigt oder überhaupt nicht geschult. Zum Beispiel übernehmen viele Fachkräfte früher oder später eine Teamleitungs- oder Führungsfunktion, jedoch haben die wenigsten von Ihnen zwischenmenschliches Know-how oder Führungswissen in der Ausbildung oder der Hochschule vermittelt bekommen. Die Folge daraus ist, dass Ergebnisse in den Unternehmen trotz Fachwissen nicht effizient oder überhaupt erreicht werden, weil die zwischenmenschliche Basis der beteiligten Personen nicht im Lot war. Die Arbeitszufriedenheit und Arbeitsmotivation werden zum größten Teil durch den Vorgesetzten beeinflusst. Die Führung und Motivation der Mitarbeiter durch den direkten Vorgesetzten, oft als Mitarbeiterführung bezeichnet, ist Gegenstand dieser Diplomarbeit. Hierzu bedarf es einer intensiven Auseinandersetzung mit den Grundlagen der Führung und der Personalführung.
