durch Kommunikation – konstruieren und sozial regulieren, dann hat auch die Public
Relations (PR) als Kommunikationssystem, als Akteure öffentlicher Kommunikation und
aussermediale Wirklichkeitskonstrukteure, einen entscheidenden Einfluss auf die Konstruktionsangebote,
welche den Rezipienten zur Verfügung stehen. Die PR fungieren insofern als
Regulativ, als dass sie die auf der Rezipientenseite wahrgenommene Komplexität des Informationsangebotes
verständlich übersetzen und auf ein verarbeitbares Mass reduzieren. Somit
leisten die PR nicht unwesentliche Selektions- und Interpretationsleistungen, welche für die
Informationsvermittlung in unserer Mediengesellschaft nicht mehr wegzudenken sind.
In diesem Sinne bilden die PR, in dieser Arbeit als ein Kommunikationssystem der
Mediengesellschaft zu verstehen, keine Wirklichkeit an sich ab, sondern konstruieren
vielmehr eine eigene Realität. Dass der Begriff „Wirklichkeit“ und Fragen ihrer „objektiven
Erkenntnis“ auch im heutigen Medienzeitalter anzutreffen sind, muss hier nicht speziell
hervorgehoben werden. Somit rückt der Konstruktivismus als eine moderne Perspektive
systemtheoretischer Kommunikationstheorie in den Mittelpunkt des Interesses.
Ich möchte im Folgenden dem Zusammenhang von PR und Wirklichkeitskonstruktion
nachgehen und zu verdeutlichen versuchen, dass die konstruktivistische Sicht durchaus
fruchtbar für die Erklärung von Begriff, Struktur und Funktion von PR ist.
Die Gliederung dieser theoretischen Arbeit gestaltet sich wie folgt: Zunächst soll ein kurzer
Überblick über die zentralen Begriffe gegeben werden. Kapitel 3 soll kommunikationstheoretische
Annahmen von PR als Wirklichkeitskonstrukteur in den Mittelpunkt der
Betrachtung stellen, wobei mir vor allem die Ausführungen von Kückelhaus (1998) zur Seite
standen. Die beiden darauf folgenden Kapitel befassen sich mit den zentralen Begriffen
Öffentliche Meinung und Image, welche nicht unwesentlich zur Wirklichkeitskonstruktion
bezüglich PR beitragen. Die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen des konstruktivistischen Ansatzes in
Bezug auf die PR im Generellen sind dann Gegenstand des vorletzten Kapitels. Abschliessend
soll das Fazit die wichtigsten Erkenntnisse dieser Arbeit kurz ausleuchten.
